The Edible Front Yard Book Signing

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

Please join us on Thursday, April 7th at 6:30 pm for munchies, a book signing and what we’re sure will be a lively conversation on edible gardening. Author of “The Edible Front Yard”, Ivette Soler, is a warm and engaging authority on this very current subject and we’re sure you’ll walk away with new inspiration and ideas on how to cultivate a food producing front yard while making it look fabulous. At Potted we’re huge believers in this concept and don’t think you ever have to sacrifice form for function.

Hope to see you there!

For more information on Ivette Soler, please check out her blog www.thegerminatrix.com.   It’s a good one.

From Seed to Skillet Success at Potted

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

Well our St. Paddy’s Day may not have been filled with green beer, but we got something much better…Jimmy Williams and Susan Heeger talking about their new book “From Seed to Skillet.” The evening started off with a great flat bread pizza and sinful sweet treats from our wonderful neighbors The Village Bakery. Then we went all out with wine and Pellagrino using our super fancy Govina PBA-free plastic wine glasses. With the crowd sufficiently full and drunk, Jimmy regaled us with tales of his grandmother and even shared his special recipe for amending soil (but to find that out, you’ll have to buy the book).

The talk went on for quite some time and everyone learned a lot (for instance, I didn’t realize that plants take more nutrients in through their leaves than they do through their roots…just make sure to spray them from underneath.) Buy the book; it’s all in there. Jimmy sells at the Santa Monica and Hollywood Farmers’ Markets and will also allow you to come to his Silver Lake nursery by appointment only.

Kill Your Lawn…And Get Paid For It!

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

The Los Angeles County Waterworks is now offering cash to kill your lawn.  How great is that?  Go to SoCal WaterSmart to get all the info.  This is an idea that is long overdue.  Then you can take your extra cash and come in to Potted and buy some lovely drought tolerant plants.  Or you could gravel the yard and put in some cool pots with succulents.  Or you could go to Hawaii.  The possibilities are endless, really.

Learn How to Install a Greywater Irrigation System

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

greywater corps

Interested in learning how to install your greywater irrigation system? These systems are simple, safe and legal, and can recapture thousands of gallons of water per year.

Greywater Corps will be teaching a two-part greywater seminar and workshop on September 18 and 25. The seminar will be organized in a two-part format; the first meeting will cover greywater theory and practice, with special attention paid to simple residential systems. The second meeting will be a hands-on workshop in which attendees will design and install a working laundry-to-landscape system at a house in the Glassell Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Potted Vintage MJB Can with SucculentsVitadog Potted Vintage Planter

Have you ever sent flowers to anyone…or better yet received flowers?  They’re great for a few days and then they start getting that “not so fresh” feeling and pretty soon you’re dumping them in your composter or green bin.  Okay, at least you’re being green and recycling them, but what about the money that just got thrown into your green bin or composter?  Cut flowers can set you back a pretty penny.

So why not send a succulent or cactus arrangement instead!  Even if you manage to kill them, you still have a great container to try again and sometimes the third time is the charm. Not all our customers realize that we can deliver just like a florist.  And now that we’ve added the Potted Gifts section to our website, you can actually pick out the arrangement you want to send and we’ll take care of the rest.  Or you can ask us to do-up something special.  Our potted designs can be funny, like our character pots or vintage arrangements, or we can do modern and sleek, like the Necco planters or the color bowls.  Delivery is extra and limited to the Los Angeles area at this point in time but who knows what lies ahead in the future.
