The Art of Joy’s Garden

Our good friend Joy has a New Year’s Day Party every year and every year I cannot wait to go just to see what art she’s added to her garden (okay, I like seeing her too). The garden has evolved over 12 years of digging into her hillside and collecting objects and this year I was especially struck by the fun, whimsy and elegence the whole garden has achieved.
This tableau started with a statuary head from Campania she purchased from us a few years back and went from there.

Little details like these iron leaves and the sailing mermaid make the whole garden a delight.

And these gargoyles are just good fun. I love how she’s incorporated them into plantings or the one where she’s used the slag glass to create a little perch.

Everywhere you look there is another tableau ready to excite and inspire you into running back to your garden to try it. This orange sphere just made me happy, especially paired with that very introspective dragon.

And anyone who knows me knows how much I love owls. It was all I could do not to steal these guys. Iron Garden Art really is lovely when you let it rust into the landscape.

Another thing Joy really knows how to do is use pots in her garden…but I’ll save that for another post. Stay tuned…
